2022 Season

Join us for our 2022 season in Brattleboro at Gallery Walk

This year Artful Streets will be activating Harmony Park + Harmony Tunnel with the Human Connection Project and Sonic Blanket joining super powers to weave lots of local artists and organizations into the public arts engagement!

Artful Streets invites everyone to be part of the art-making and sharing, creating experiences of participatory arts and social engagement, designed to be inclusive of our diversity—age, gender, race, culture, identity, ability and experience. Artful Streets is agile, designing for “the gaps”—spatially and programmatically—and focusing on human interaction and expression. We’ll do this by occupying interstitial spaces throughout town with Pop-Up Art Stations during Gallery Walk. Each month Pop-Ups will feature local cultural artists and organizations, offering activities based on a theme.

may 6: What’s the Word?

We’ll honor and celebrate language and communication through art, poetry and games at Sonic Blanket’s “Poetry Station”—Rich Earth Institute, Write Action and youth poets will be joining the action at Harmony Park! We’ll also learn to express ourselves in the many languages spoken by our neighbors in the The Library’s “Harmony Tunnel of Babel.”

jun 3: Let’s Move!

Let’s dance off the icy winter. Learn a bunch of new moves or a whole new dance with Brattleboro School of Dance instructors at Harmony Park. Enter “Stitched with Vapor, Snow” and Sound and Move and Dance through the Sonic Blanket.

july 1: Step Up

Step up and speak, sing, or make something that rings true to what matters to you. Step up for what matters to others in our community, too. It could take the form of a song, poem, short story, puppet or piece of artwork with a social message. Artful Streets collaboration with Sonic Blanket will invites organizations with a social mission to share the work they are doing in our community and inspire us all to step up. We’ll have an open mic, art stations, places to exhibits, questions to engage, and ways to get involved. How do you want to “Step Up”?

aug 5: Game On!

Are you ready to bring it? Game on! Chess Alley is back by popular demand. Sonic Blanket is inviting you to a creative game of hide and seek. And RiverFest Weekend kicks off with river play on dry land. Maybe you have a favorite game and want to teach others? Bring it (and a table and chairs, if needed), set it up near Harmony Park and invite others to learn and play.

sep 2: Technicolor Town

Let’s make Brattleboro colorful! Have you ever had an idea of how to make a spot in our downtown more vibrant, engaging, playful and just plain cool? Use lighting, chalk and reused materials to create a splash of color in your part of town. And don’t miss “The Tunnel of Technicolor Transformation” where you can turn up your own style!

oct 7: Eye See You, Brattleboro

Together let’s tell the bigger story of the people and places of our town. Through all media, let’s create a collective self-portrait of Brattleboro. Paint, photograph, write, perform, or install your lens. And come and see Brattleboro through the eyes of others we live amongst.

nov 4: Of This Land

Let’s celebrate the life of this land—the water, rock, weather, wildlife, flora, and importantly, the original caretakers of this place—the Sokoki band of the Abenaki. Let’s honor their generational kinship with all life here and sink into the essence of this land.

dec 2: Make It!

In the month of giving, let’s put our hands to work and give from our creative and resourceful selves. Take something we have and give it new life. Reuse materials that transform into something spectacular. Think about the loved ones in your life and make something special for them.
